Understanding self-improvement: Top 5 things you should do on your day off

We all have twenty-four hours every single day. Minus sleep and work, most of us have a very limited time. It is up to us to determine how to use our time best to accomplish something great in our lives. Most people spend their time on the internet, planning the next vacation, and purchasing things that do not impact their lives. Have you wondered if you would have done things differently, how your life would be today? If you were to invest 100 dollars every month when you were 18, would you have become a millionaire by now? Although there is no guarantee of success in life, if you never try to become successful, you will never accomplish anything. In this article, we will deep dive into some things you can start doing today to make you a better person, family, and friend.

1. Start reading and writing.

Did you know that more than half of Americans have never read a book since they finished their studies at a university? Most people go about their day consuming a large amount of social media. Instagram and TikTok have become one of the largest platforms for corporates to make money and spread ideas on consumer behaviors. On the contrary, the sales of books have significantly declined since the advent of the internet. Reading and writing have a tremendous impact on your success. It develops discipline and the willpower for you to seek excellence in life. Professionals write many topics, and you can learn anything in the 21st century online. You can also learn anything using platforms like YouTube and Audible. They have various topics and courses that you can choose from. And many universities offer their courses for free. You may not get a degree, but you definitely can these skills to start a business on your own. Pick a topic you enjoy and dedicate a few hours of your day to master a specific topic. Better yet, you can start writing blog posts and publish them online. That way, you can solidify your knowledge and create content to help others.

2. Go to the gym.

Physical fitness is by far one of the essential things in life. Without good health, you will most likely not be able to accomplish many things you wish. For the average person, you should aim to go to the gym three to five times a week. Calculate your BMI if you are overweight, and start with a diet plan that contains nutrient-dense food and reduces unnecessary calories. These include avoiding sugary drinks, fast food, fried food, and dairy products. This creates discipline, mental sharpness, and focus. You should combine resistance training and cardiovascular exercises. Join a gym with like-minded individuals and work out with your friends and family. Make sure to get things done with no excuses. In no time, you will find yourself at a much better place in life. Many medical studies suggest exercise reduces cardiovascular risks, depression, alcohol consumption, and more. And you start building confidence and notice the world is full of possibilities if you put your mind to it.

3. Start a side hustle.

Making money is no easy task. In the modern era, if you want to live a comfortable life, you must make at least a six-figure salary yearly. Either in the form of a business or employment. You will be required to have a high-income skill that can make you money. Some people go for professional jobs like becoming a doctor, a lawyer, and an engineer. Others decide to start a business like opening an online retail store or selling training programs. One of the biggest tips I have gotten from some of the most successful individuals is: Do not chase your dream; instead, chase the market that gives you the best opportunities. Look at markets that make you the most opportunities. With the invention of the internet, the sky is the only limit. And there is no excuse for not learning online marketing, SEOs, and starting a business using the internet as a tool. In addition, you need to pay attention to the stock market, real estate, and possibly cryptocurrency. With the current state of the market, there will be plenty of opportunities in the downturn of our economy. And all of these information are at the tip of your finger. If you are able to build seven streams of income, you will for sure be able to live a comfortable life.

4. Optimize your life by automating everything.

To improve our productivity and living conditions, we must constantly look for ways to improve. Reducing mental exhaustion should be your number one priority. You can only deal with so many tasks every day before you find yourself experiencing burnout. Imagine your mind is an empty glass. You can only fill yourself with so many tasks before it becomes overwhelming. Therefore, you must find out what your limit is. Delegate tasks that are boring and non-productive to other people. Spend the money to buy back your time. With this, you can expand your “cup” with many life experiences and training. You can then turn them into another form of income stream. Find ways to make your life easier. Use a calendar to streamline every hour of your day. Use services such as meal prep companies and delivery services to save you time. This is not to be spoiled, but it can save you a lot of time and freedom, so you can use that time to become more productive. 

5. Spend time with your friends and family.

Last but not least, family and friends are one of the most important things in life. Don’t forget to celebrate life with the people you love. After all, what is the point of having the most successful career and money if you have no one to spend your success with? Don’t become the fool that lets the corporates control your life. It is not worth spending your life working for a company with no obligations to take care of you. Spend quality time with family daily and be grateful for what you have. Make it a habit to spend an hour of your time every day. Call your mom and tell her that you love her. Call that friend from college that you used to care about.  I find that keeping up with friends and family motivates me to achieve my goals, and it does help me to advance in my career.
